The Situation
Children's Hospital Ireland (CHI) is transitioning from three organisations to one. In doing so, it must revise all of its systems to ensure they are fit for purpose and optimised for use in the new children’s hospital. This includes the establishment of a single organisational wide Medical Device Management System.
The Tasks
In late 2023 the HSE issued a National Patient Safety Alert to all hospital and community healthcare institutions in Ireland. Upon its issue, CHI set about prioritising the revision of its existing Medical Device Management System. Newpark Healthcare, through its expert staff, were tasked with supporting and guiding senior CHI staff in completing this work.
Newpark Healthcare's participation in CHI committees accelerated the CHI staff in completing a full review of any existing governance arrangements and policies. The process included interviews with all appropriate individuals and departments and support for CHI in revising and implementing an updated and comprehensive Medical Device Management System for CHI.
The Result
The CHI now have an up to date revised Medical Device Management System aligned with the Best Practice Guidelines issued by the HSE.
This system includes an integrated governance structure for medical device usage across the whole organisation.
A number of key committees and working groups have been reorganised and set into action with updated terms of reference.
